HOLT CAT is a leading Texas dealer and service provider of Caterpillar equipment. They recently launched corporate initiatives to protect the environment, reduce waste and emissions, and recycle materials. For their Central Texas facilities, HOLT CAT approached PCI Solar.
HOLT CAT needed a way to improve environmental efficiency and take control of energy costs. Deciding on a solar solution to achieve these goals, HOLT CAT needed a partner to construct the system and maximize return on investment. They hired PCI Solar to not just assist in construction, but also to consult them on the most cost effective way to complete the project.
While the local utility offered a solar cash rebate that was lucrative on a dollar-per-watt basis, it was capped at $80,000 per meter, per year. This limited system size, making it challenging to be both cost-effective and have an impact on HOLT CAT’s sustainability goals.
PCI Solar was able to deliver a custom solution that leveraged these incentives to fit HOLT CAT’s budget and energy requirements.
PCI evaluated the rules of the utility's solar rebate program, and recommended a multi-year rollout of the solar systems. One project per meter, per year. This would allow HOLT CAT to achieve its energy needs and get the best ROI. HOLT CAT would receive up to $80,000 for each rooftop solar project, with two buildings adding three solar systems each.
For construction, HOLT CAT and PCI Solar worked together on a plan to identify the most viable roof areas. We also developed a construction schedule that would have minimal impact on HOLT CAT's day-to-day operations.
PCI Solar was even able to contribute to the design phase of one building by consulting with architects and builders to ensure the roof of the new building would be solar-ready.
PCI successfully brought the total solar capacity of HOLT CAT's 100,000 square foot San Antonio campus to 620 kW. With this new system, PCI Solar has now built over 920kW of solar for HoltCAT Texas' locations from Waco to Austin to Fort Worth.
By maximizing financial incentives from the local utility, HOLT CAT was able to limit their amount of annual capital expenditures. This put them on track to achieve maximum energy offset and lifetime utility bill savings. Factoring in federal and state solar tax credits, CPS rebate, and energy savings, 75% of the system’s cost was paid for in year one alone.
PCI Solar didn't just deliver an efficient, sustainable solar system. It helped HOLT CAT realize valuable financial opportunities to help them get the most out of their solar investment.
